LITTLE LADY LEARNER
About Me
I am a fully qualified female DSA Approved Driving Instructor, I am reliable, committed, experienced, supportive, calming, reassuring, patient, and friendly. Instruction is
carried out in a BMW Mini Cooper Diesel with air conditioning
and dual controls.
I teach on a one to one basis, for either an 1hr, 1˝hrs or 2hr lesson with a discount for block payment bookings.
I am based in Gloucester and also instruct in surrounding
areas including Cheltenham.
I teach beginners including nervous pupils. All pupils must hold a Provisional UK licence (D1 form from
post office or online see links). I
also provide instruction for pupils who have basic driving knowledge but are still needing to do their driving test including
theory and hazard perception training. The most important element when learning to drive is to drive safely (including looking for all road users), confidently and environmentally
friendly, on the ever increasingly busy roads in all conditions based on my knowledge and experience. Mock tests can also
be provided and are regularly conducted, in order to prepare you for your DSA driving test.
When you have passed your driving test you can do either the Pass Plus
(recommended
by the DSA - when completed entitles
you to discounts on your insurance with specific companies participating
in the scheme) or motorway training. Both of these courses gain additional experience in a
safe environment. I also provide refresher courses for anyone with a Full UK licence.
All lessons are individually tailored to the pupils needs and requirements depending on previous experience
and knowledge. Pupils are provided with a progress report (including private practice) that is updated on every lesson, also are
given a note book to accompany lessons to improve and speed up the learning process.
Theory and hazard perception training packs are also available, the source of the training material will depend
on your individual training needs.
The teaching techniques used depends on your individual learning abilities, each lesson having set objectives,
teaching the subject using lesson plans, diagrams,
books and occasional a demonstration. A precise and detailed talk through, stage by stage is
given, allowing you to practice using suitable training sites to carry out the given subject to gain confidence, knowledge and experience with
varying levels of help depending on the ability of the pupil. During and throughout the learning process, I give advice and feedback positive or negative including helpful
hints. At the end of the lesson summarising how you’ve progressed, what still requires work and sometimes
setting homework.
When all the basic subjects within the DSA syllabus have been completed, an opportunity to familiarize on the
test routes will be taken, including any difficult or more demanding areas. At this stage mock tests will be carried out to allow
the candidate to see how it is to be in test conditions (sometimes conducted by another instructor if I feel this would benefit).
Then further practice to perfect
the overall drive and manoeuvres to reduce the number of minor faults. All pupils are brought
to the same level of competence and ability. Most pupils pass on their first attempt and I strive to get a 100% pass rate,
which as yet I have not achieved over the years. My pass rate is well above the local and national average and the number
of minor faults are well below the national average. However, a first time pass does not always make for the best driver.
Driving is a skill
that is gained over a period of time like learning to walk, talk and read and write. As with
all subjects, some people expect to pick it up straight away, some do achieve this however, we are all different and this
is reflected in the training.
My overall aim is to teach everyone to drive safely for life and not just to pass
the driving test. Nobody should pass their test
and go out and drive differently to how the instructor has taught them. There is a reason for checking those mirrors, reducing
speed where required, anticipating potential problems, before they become a problem in order to keep everyone safe. By not
doing this could have dreadful consequences, potentially killing you or someone else, you
will now be in charge of a killing machine.
